Relief to the families of deceased / injured fishermen subjected to attack by the Sri Lankan Navy

The fishermen who involved in fishing in the traditional waters of the Palk Bay are apprehended / harassed and sometimes even shot at by the Sri Lankan Navy, the Government is providing an ex-gratia amount of Rs.3.00 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to help the family of fishermen who die as a result of shooting at sea. In the case of the deceased fisherman being the sole breadwinner of the family, an Ex-gratia amount of Rs.5.00 lakh is being provided. If the fishermen sustain major and minor injuries, an ex-gratia amount of Rs.50,000/- and Rs.20,000/- respectively is being provided.

Eligibility Criteria to avail the assistance

1. The report from the concerned Assistant Director of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare on identity of the Tamil Nadu fishermen shot by Sri Lankan Navy

2. If the deceased fishermen is non-member of the Fishermen Co-operative Society, he can also claim the relief assistance.

Documents to be enclosed by the applicant

1. First Information Report (FIR) from the Police Station

2. Death Certificate

3. Post Mortem Report/certificate

4. Legal heir certificate

5. Letter of consent from other legal heirs

6. Proof on injuries caused due to shooting incident
