Tamil Nadu has 1,068.69 km coastline, 1.9 lakh sq.km EEZ, and 3.85 lakh ha. inland water resources supporting over 12 lakh fishers across marine and inland sectors.
Tamil Nadu exported 1.34 lakh MT marine products worth ₹6,854.22 Cr in 2023–24. India ranks 2nd in global fish production, with fisheries contributing 1% to GDP.
With growing fish demand and per capita consumption at 10.83 kg, the State promotes aquaculture and integrated fish farming to triple inland production sustainably.
